The Big Idea
Slashdot Studios aims to harness the creativity, ideas and passion of people through a global network of creative labs and studios. We support the whole process with our own engine – currently known as ‘Container’.

The engine grades information and exchanges. It attributes value to ideas, inputs and outputs, quantifies the long-term value of an artefact in the sharing economy. It grades everything from qualifications to client ratings, can be customised to work for any business or sector where sharing knowledge, resources and information creates value.

4
The Container Engine
The system accounts the sharing economy. It runs on an engine that establishes a hierarchy, grading information. Each individual has their own personal node built on a blockchain-style system. Only they can access it. They choose what to exchange with other individuals on the system through trade actions, based on the ‘value validation network’.

The Studios
The spaces will act as a co-working space where ideas are created and people work together to innovate and disrupt. The first physical space will also be where we build the Container engine, using our residents to test and validate the system using real projects and collaborations. The Container Engine will continually account the level of input and output an individual makes to the company. If an artefact is sold for capital value, Container will determine the level of return the company and the individual receives, which will also be recorded on the relevant nodes.

What happens next?
Once investment has been secured, we plan to move on to development and have a team of talented developers waiting to get started. Our five-year plan is below, but our first steps will be to:
1. Build the engine and prove the concept
2. Establish studios in Leeds to start testing the system
3. Appointment of directors, board members and executives to the company
4. Partner with other studios in key creative hubs around the world to grow the network globally from the start*
5. Continually invest into infrastructure to enable international growth

Why you should invest?
We believe that great change is coming – socially, economically and politically – as digitilisation continues to force us to rethink how the world works. And while we could sit back and hope that we’ll all simply adapt to these changes, finding new ways to make a living while technology takes over traditional day jobs, we plan to prepare for a new future where innovators are rewarded for their creativity.
We also want to reward those people who want to be part of something bigger than themselves and bigger than the next cool tech trend; who want to help create something that will fundamentally change the way the world does business.

Those who invest early will have higher rewards by being higher in our tiered system, receiving greater return on every transaction.

The engine harnesses the power of the internet, communities and the individual, attributing value to each user based on their inputs, whether that’s capital, physical or intellectual assets. It’s also at the heart of our creative studios and labs, creating a system that underpins a community where collaboration is celebrated and rewarded. We face a climate of underemployment and increasing automation. But we live in a market bursting with creative people. They are rich in ideas and skills but have limited capital wealth. We aim to harness the power to challenge, disrupt and change the world in creative ways that only humans can imagine.

Slashdot Studios is built on strong principles that will be upheld throughout our development and growth. We want to lead the way, act responsibly and provide the perfect platforms to help talented people to think, make and grow. These are the values we will live by:

Go global: We want to create a system that crosses cultural, class and society divides from the start. We’ll start globally from day one.

Harness machine learning: The system needs to adapt to the individual user depending on user input with a balanced approach to human input and machine learning.

Create intrinsic value: By its very nature, the system increases in value the more it is used.

Have integrity: The company must be seen as friendly, approachable and doing good in everything we do. Actions will speak louder than words.

Nurture talent: To have the best people in the positions that reflect our society we must create a space that encourages experimentation, collaboration and individuality.

The value validation network is the system that connects each person’s nodes on a serverless network. It determines and quantifies whatever is shared and exchanged, whether that’s capital assets or knowledge. The other users of the system then quantify and evaluate the information.

The Studios
As well as being the headquarters of Slashdot Studios, the space will act as a co-working space where ideas are created and people work together to innovate and disrupt. The first physical space will also be where we build the Container engine, using our residents to test and validate the system using real projects and collaborations. Container will continually account the level of input and output an individual makes to the company. If an artefact is sold for capital value, Container will determine the level of return the company and the individual receives, which will also be recorded.

The community will be headquartered in Leeds, West Yorkshire, but our ambition is to establish sites across the world, connecting individuals to allow them to develop products in an agile environment. The spaces will all run on the Container BETA Network, proving concepts and continually creating capital and asset wealth for the company and individuals connected to our system.

The company will take a percentage of the rights and royalties of any invention, show, or creation purely dependent on the Container Network, though this will never exceed 49%.

The hubs will also provide space for regular shows, exhibitions, seminars and product launches, with further interactions and value created through the network.

The studios will operate by creating a culture of collaboration and positivity – each individual has to contribute in a proactive manner to the space.

Who’s it for?

The idea for the system came from founder Joss Sessions’ experiences of working in the arts, where creative people with limited capital can struggle to bring their ideas to life, and where it can be difficult to quantify the value of the individual.
The Container Network was born from his frustrations with the arts, however, the flexible nature of the system makes it relevant to multiple sectors, where value needs to be measured and information and knowledge sharing is essential.
Initially, we’d look to target the following sectors, though this list is by no means exhaustive:
• Tech
• Creative
• Retail
• Government
• Finance
• Law
• Education
• Sport
• Property

How it Works
How Value is measured and
Rewarded

•Built on tracking human value and rewarding them for their work and contribution
•A small capital fee taken on every transaction made on the system
•Fair, above board wealth distribution
•At all stages of a project, contracts are continually updated, validated and values exchanged
•The level an individual is on will determine the value exchange
•This is not dependent on advertising, data scraping or harvesting

The value to the SlashDot
•Slashdot Studios hosts, runs and administers the system
•The fee taken from the transaction is distributed on the system to the company, investors and relevant authorities. Depending on permission level, the values and traceability of the system will be available to view
We aim to sell closed Container systems to Governments
•We will research and develop further artefacts (artistic and commercial), not limiting ourselves to one product from our international studio Network

The value to the user
•Their rights are protected
•Wealth is distributed fairly
•Personal data is private and offline
•Equality and diversity – no-one will be discriminated against or favoured over another because of how they choose to identify themselves
•Universal access
•Local values celebrated whilst existing in a global society
•The network is what users want to make it

* By partnering with other studios and prosumer companies around the globe to start with, we don’t have to worry about having to establish physical locations in the short term. This saves us money in the short term, establishes a network for global growth in the long term and attracts early adopters and influencers to raise the product’s profile in key locations.

That means we’re being very selective about the people we invite to invest, because we don’t just want your capital, we want the value you add as a business person and a human being, too.

In the immediate term, it will be a two-year process to build the basis of the engine, a five-year process to build globally and will take an estimated 10 years for Slashdot Studios to become a global leader, at the forefront of how information is shared and validated across the world.

As we build the system, it will be released to the public to use. The value in the system is in the integrity of the network – the more people use it the greater the value. A ‘tax’ is applied to every transaction dependent on the type of transaction.

Those who invest early will have higher rewards by being higher in our tiered system, receiving greater return on every transaction.
